"It was a gorgeous, very early Spring-like day, and everyone was out along the river in Philadelphia, PA. All 4 lanes were crammed with people in cars enjoying the day. A giant red Ford pickup had earlier passed me on the right, and was now in the left lane in front of me. We were all slowing down for a traffic light when all of a sudden the Ford truck in front of me stopped short. He hit the person in front of him and I hit him at about 30 MPH, with the brakes slammed on as hard as I could brake. As the car hit, I was thinking, 'I am going to die, there is no way I will survive this, the engine will come through and crush me.' But, it didn't. Because the Volvo S60 crumpled and deployed the airbag. We couldn't get the key out of the ignition or put the car in gear after the crash, but the car saved my life. There's no other way to explain it. I walked away uninjured, other than pulled muscles from pushing back so hard on the brakes. The only car I will ever own after this will be another Volvo!"
"I was on my way home from a friend's birthday party, to stop by my house to get ready to go to another friend's birthday party. I was going down the road traveling 35mph when a 1990's Jeep Cherokee pulled out in front of me from a drive-in theatre, not more than 10 feet away. I had NO chance of stopping and T-boned him - the collision pushed his vehicle more than 20 feet from our initial impact. My front end was demolished ...and the driver airbag went off with no cabin intrusion what so ever. I walked out of the car myself, all the doors opened perfectly and I suffered only a few scratches and a minor sprained wrist. The paramedics and fire fighters were surprised with how the well car held up for its age and stated that if I were in any other vehicle but a Volvo, I most certainly could have been killed or seriously injured. I owe my life to this brand."
"I want to thank you for building a car that saved my life. I was hit head on ...by a 6 time DUI driver without insurance and a license. Even though I have some medical issues, I am here to talk about it. The top was even down and the pick up that hit me did not go over the hood. I am very fortunate. I am a life long fan of Volvo and the C70. Thank you again."
"I was fortunate enough as a child to had grown up in a household that drove Volvos (740 & 960). When I became a parent myself, I bought a 1998 Volvo S70 primarily due to Volvos safety reputation. On the night of 12/27/2015, I was involved in a near head on collision with a Jeep Grand Cherokee in Eagle River, Alaska. The oncoming vehicle tried making a last second left hand turn in front of me, just giving me enough time to hit him broadside. The impact was over 65+ mph and totaled both vehicles. I was out of my car and walking within a few minutes, while other vehicle needed fire department using Jaws of Life to remove occupants. Combination of seat belt, airbag and Volvos well known crumble zone all played a role in saving my life. Even the fire department commented that "I was driving the right vehicle" and "if I was driving an older steel vehicle...the outcome would have been different". I'm thankful to be alive and walking! Having the ability to walk away from this accident made me feel like I cheated death and that I was given a second chance in life. I feel that a Volvo most definitely saved my life! Able to walk away in AK!!!"

"On Friday, June 17 around 9:40PM Caren, our son G. and I were traveling on Route 288 in Virginia. We were a few minutes away from our late dinner stop at Chuy's when I spotted a deer crossing the 2 lane highway. I jammed on my brakes and steered around the deer. Caren saw the deer out her window as we passed. We were at a near stop and then *BAM* we were hit by a 2005 Hyundai Elantra. He also had hit the deer that we missed... At that moment the pop of the seatbelt pretensioners went off and the smell of smoke was in the air. Both Caren's and my seat went backwards thanks to WHIPS and prevented what would have been whiplash in nearly any other car. The lights went on in the car and I somehow managed to get over to the median and stop the car from rolling. Caren received some bruises that are healing and our son was in shock but we all unbuckled and walked away. Volvo on Call came on and called the police and ambulance. 3 other cars also collided behind us. The EMS worker said if it wasn't a Volvo you would be in far, far worse shape. One of the Virginia State Troopers called us the next day to check on us. He asked: "Did you see how bad the other car was?" I did. The front end was obliterated in the Hyundai. Our trunk was pushed in and the frame wrecked. The underbody distributed the vast majority of the force and the rear suspension, exhaust, gas tank, body took the brunt of the damage. He said the car did everything right and it was a good thing we were in a Volvo. Our car is a total loss. There is no question the brakes, suspension, WHIPS, seat belts and body integrity, crumple zones and all the safety Volvo engineers into every vehicle saved at least our son's life, if not all of our lives. Thank you Volvo Car USA tagging Volvo Volvo Club of America. We will lease a new one next week."
"I rolled my 2004 S60, and by the grace of God, I only sustained injuries in about a 6 by 3 square inch spot on my face. The rest of my body was fine - I am truly blessed by God. I had a sport exhaust and a bigger turbo. I have owned three Volvo vehicles so far in my life. I am 22 years old. I am a car enthusiast and I always talked about how safe Volvos were. I am so blessed that I am even alive. I really love Volvo and will never own a different brand of car."
"We wanted Marcus to have a safe car, that's why we made the choice to get a Volvo," says Marcus's father, Fernando Mendoza.
A safe car, but luck was not with Marcus in full measure as he moved off, perfectly normally, from a stop sign that day. Another car came racing up from behind at high speed, shunting Marcus's Volvo into a nearby tree.
It looked like more than just an insurance write-off to the firemen who attended the accident. To them, it looked like a fatal accident. It took them 20 minutes to cut open the car and get Marcus out of it.
He had broken his nose, his left leg and his left arm. He had multiple cuts and abrasions. But he had survived. "I remember I had just left a stop sign. The car started moving, then everything went black," says Marcus.
His parents, Fernando and Diane Mendoza, rushed to the hospital when they heard their son had been in a serious accident. There he was, stretched out on a hospital bed, still covered in blood and with fragments of glass all over his body.
"My heart just sank when I saw my child in that situation. And then he immediately started apologizing about the car being wrecked!" says Fernando Mendoza.
Marcus was off school recovering for eight weeks. The rescue team who cut him out of his car were convinced that he had only come through it alive thanks to Volvo Cars.
"They said he survived because he was in a Volvo," says Fernando Mendoza.
"My name is Kathy Hall. I am a wife, mother of two beautiful daughters and two golden retrievers. I am also the proud owner of a Volvo!!!! In fact, my family of 4 has 4 Volvo's!!! We will never purchase any other brand of automobile. I have a front license plate that reads "VOLVO. FOR LIFE" and no truer words could be spoken. On March 31, 2007 my younger daughter and I were victims of an attempted carjacking. A wanted fugitive was on the loose and a police pursuit of him was in progress. We were in our S40 Volvo and he came at me head on, side swiped me and then hit me again in the rear with his Mercedes. He then got out of his vehicle and put a gun to my head!!! I ducked to protect my daughter and he fired the round into my Volvo. I hit the gas pedal and fled the scene. My Volvo, by some miracle, even with the damage it sustained got me away from there. His Mercedes was disabled from the impact. My daughter called 911 and he was finally apprehended. My car was impounded for 65 days and had $10,000.00 worth of damage. The state police told me if I were driving anything else we would have been dead. They also told us because it was a Volvo they were able to carefully take the interior apart, piece by piece and retrieve the bullet which was lodged in the heater core intact. One of the officers said this bullet would have stopped a moose dead in its tracks, BUT IT DIDN'T STOP MY VOLVO!!!!! The S40 was our first Volvo and we still have it. Since that day in March we have purchased 3 more Volvo's - an XC90, S60 and another S40. We are an all American family with a house on our cookie cutter lot with two golden retrievers and 4 Volvo's proudly parked in our driveway. I recently picked up a book called Volvo Saved My Life and wanted to tell my story. Thank You, Kathy Hall Friday, March 31, 2017 will mark the Ten Year Anniversary that our Volvo saved my daughter and my life. Since then we have purchased two more Volvo's. VOLVO. FOR LIFE!"
